1. Scope and operator

Pin High is a golf scoring, GPS, and social coordination app operated by Sam Jandris (“Pin High,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy applies to the Pin High mobile app, the website at pinhigh.samjandris.com, and support interactions.

Pin High is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it.

2. Information we handle

Account and profile information

When you create or use an account, we handle your email address, display name, username or handle, profile color and initials, self-reported golf handicap, and account security state. If you use Apple or Google sign-in, Pin High receives the basic identity information you approve, such as your name, email address, and provider account identifier. Passwords, verification methods, and multifactor authentication details are handled by our authentication provider, Clerk.

Golf and social information

We handle the rounds you create or join; scores and optional hole statistics; course, tee, and game selections; round results and history; course favorites; friend relationships, blocks, requests, invitations, and in-app notifications; and course correction or missing-course submissions. Public round links are only created or used when a sharing feature is enabled by the user.

Location and course data

With foreground location permission, the app reads your device’s precise location to determine whether you are on the selected course, calculate yardages, order nearby course results, and decide whether to show local weather. Your coordinate is sent to Pin High’s backend for those requested features. When you choose nearby-course search, it is also sent to OpenGolfAPI to return and rank nearby courses. For live GPS, Pin High uses the coordinate to validate that you are close to the selected course, but does not send it to OpenGolfAPI’s course-geometry endpoint or to Golf Intelligence; distance calculations then happen on your device. For weather, our server sends the stored center coordinate of the selected course—not your precise position—to Open-Meteo after an on-course check. Exact player coordinates are not stored in the weather cache or sent to product analytics.

Device, push, and operational information

If you enable push notifications, we handle an Expo push token, an app-scoped installation identifier, platform, project identifier, and delivery status. Push messages are intentionally generic and do not include names, handles, scores, invite codes, or course details. We may also process coarse app events and redacted error information to understand reliability and product use. We do not place your name, email, phone number, scores, course names, precise location, social graph, or internal account identifiers in product analytics.

Support and website information

If you contact us, we receive the information you include in your message. Like most websites, our hosting provider may process basic request data such as IP address, browser type, time, and requested page to deliver and protect this website. This site does not use advertising trackers.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Create, authenticate, secure, and support your account.
  • Sync live scorecards, rounds, friendships, invitations, history, and settings across devices.
  • Provide GPS yardages, course information, maps, and current course-area weather.
  • Send optional transactional push notifications you enable.
  • Prevent abuse, enforce limits, troubleshoot failures, and protect Pin High and its users.
  • Respond to support requests, export your data, and process account deletion.
  • Measure coarse product behavior and improve reliability without building an advertising profile.

We do not sell personal information and do not use personal information for targeted advertising.

4. Service providers and disclosures

We disclose information only as needed to operate Pin High, follow your instructions, protect the service, or comply with law. Our providers may include:

  • Clerk for account authentication, verification, social sign-in, and account security.
  • Convex for application data storage, synchronization, and server functions.
  • Expo for application build services and optional push notification delivery.
  • Apple and Google when you choose their sign-in services or receive the app through their stores.
  • OpenGolfAPI, OpenStreetMap contributors, Golf Intelligence, and Open-Meteo for course, mapping, GPS, and weather data as configured. OpenGolfAPI receives your coordinate when you choose nearby-course search. Live GPS does not send your exact position to course-geometry or weather providers.
  • Cloudflare for website delivery, security, and related request logging.
  • Sentry and PostHog, if enabled for a production release, for redacted error monitoring and privacy-bounded anonymous product analytics.

We may also disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with a valid legal request, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or complete a business transfer subject to appropriate protections. Other players in a shared round can see the scorecard and participant details needed for that round. Friends can see the profile and activity information the app presents to friends.

5. Retention and deletion

We keep account, golf, and social data while your account is active and as needed to provide Pin High. Some operational data follows shorter schedules: course-area weather is cached for about ten minutes; normalized OpenGolf geometry is cached for about seven days; licensed Golf Intelligence geometry may be cached per user and course for up to 360 days; and terminal push delivery records are removed after about 30 days. Provider or security logs may remain for their configured operational periods.

When you delete your account, Pin High initiates deletion of your Pin High application data and identity record, except information we must keep for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution reasons. Residual copies may remain temporarily in encrypted backups until those backups rotate. De-identified information that can no longer reasonably be linked to you may be retained.

6. Your choices

  • Location: allow or deny foreground location in device settings. Scorekeeping remains available without location, but GPS, nearby-course sorting, and course-area weather may not work.
  • Push notifications: opt in or out in the app or device settings.
  • Export: use Profile → Account & support → Export my data.
  • Delete: use Profile → Account & support → Permanently delete account. See our account deletion page if you cannot access the app.
  • Profile and social controls: update supported profile fields in the app and use friend, invite, and block controls.
  • Social sign-in permissions: manage Apple or Google access in the settings for those providers. Revoking provider access does not by itself delete your Pin High account.

Depending on where you live, law may provide additional rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or obtain a portable copy of personal information. Contact us to make a request. We may verify your identity before acting.

7. Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including authenticated access, server-side authorization checks, restricted production environments, and transport encryption. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Pin High and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those locations may have different data-protection laws than your home country. Where required, we rely on lawful transfer mechanisms provided by our service providers.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Pin High changes. We will post the revised version here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects your rights or how personal information is used, we will provide additional notice when required.
